The AVEVA Instrumentation drawing management application Instrument Designer handles automatic generation of instrumentation CAD drawings from the multi-user AVEVA Instrumentation project or plant database. It manages the process of CAD drawing creation, transferring of design data to drawings, parametric (automatic) creation of termination (wiring) drawings, document revision updates and batch printing. AVEVA Instrumentation Designer essentially converts your loop and wiring design from the project database into AutoCAD drawing files.
AVEVA Instrumentation Designer also contains a Hookup module that enables fast installation detail generation and accurate Bill of Materials using standard hookup arrangements and a user definable component catalog.

Drawing List Management
- Add/Edit/Delete drawings in the Drawing List (register) manually

- Updates Instrument data from Instrument Engineer (e.g. P&ID No, Manufacturer, Model No., Range, DCS/PLC I/O info etc.)
- Updates title block information (Titles, Rev etc) and stacks revision history etc
Termination Diagram Generation
- Creates drawings based on:
- Templates (typically termination schedules)
- Parametrics (typically termination diagrams) – user defined parameters - fully automated drawing creation
- Updates cable/termination data from Wiring Manager (e.g. Cable, Terminal & Wires No.’s)
- Supports cross-patch wiring and links between terminals
- Supports automatic continuation over multiple drawings (e.g. Marshalling Racks etc)
- Supports automatic reference drawing numbers to loop diagrams for field cables & To/From equipment & drawing numbers for termination drawings
- Updates title block information (Titles, Rev etc) and stacks revision history etc
Hookup/Installation Drawing Generation
- Assign tags to Hookup Type (Hookup drawings are user defined using AutoCAD®)
- Assign Hookup Items from user definable catalog (AVEVA Instrumentation currently has over 3000 items already entered)
- Auto create Drawings with Bill of Materials and Tag List
- Project Bill Of Materials (BOM) reports (by Plant Area and Total Project BOM)
Change Management
- Report all drawings added/deleted & renamed. Revision changes etc.
- Report detail changes in each field (e.g. Drawing No. now: ABCD was: XYZ, Revision now: A was: B etc)
- Log changes for reporting (e.g. 8/7/2003 Drawing No. XYZ: Cable No. now: 1234 was: 4567 etc)
Instrument Designer can be used on existing AutoCAD® drawings and allows drawings to be updated from the Instrument Design Office database (Instrument Engineer, Wiring Manager data or user defined) without requiring use of templates. For example, several loop drawings could be initially generated from a standard loop definition (template), then any number can be edited and made non-standard, but the information can still be updated automatically from the original project database.
